I stumbled across this looking for poetry for a work project. Not only did I like it, I thought compass_rose would think it interesting, too.
The Two-Headed Calf Tomorrow when the farm boys find this freak of nature, they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother. It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass. And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

Possibly even my favorite of the week, because of how wonderfully it demonstrates that geekdom and machiavellian pragmatism can easily combine to save the day...
compass_rose (via text), 10:15am: At disney and my feet are already sore. I want 2 nap.
gwenhwfyr: Step 1. Find costumed character, preferably one of greater stature. Step 2. Beat said character into submission. Step 3. Curl up upon it like it's a totoro. Better yet, Disney bought that film. Just find a totoro of your very own! compass_rose: I love you for that!

I think the roomie just gave me my favorite compliment ever! My birthday gift was addressed to:
"The ever present, effervescent, delectably fun-sized Miss Jenyvere" I like that one! And the earrings he got me are pretty cool too =)Current Mood: chipper

It's Birthday Season! (You see, when your birthday happens close to Christmas, you sometimes learn to celebrate whenever you can around all the other commotion... thus, Birthday Season!)
But you see, Birthday Season doesn't have a hard and fast date like most holidays. It just begins when it begins, so you never know when to expect it. Know how I know it's started? Cuz I just got home from work to discover a big ole Amazon box on the table, addressed to me. But I don't remember ordering anything... ???
So upon carefully opening the potentially life-threatening "bomb", I discover.........
A NEW WOOOOOOBIE! !!!!!Yay!!!!! So very like the one whose recent departure from the world of comfort and warmth I sadly mourned. (There wasn't a service over the dumpster where I laid its holey, threadbare form to rest after it began sloughing off sheets of fur last month, but there should have been! It's been with me longer than most of you!) It's dark green and fuzzy, twin-sized for couch snuggling and cabin beds, and after a trip through the dryer with some fabric softener it will be PERFECT!
And thus begins Birthday Season and the exciting existence of Fuzzy Green Woobie II, courtesy of compass_rose and blauwald, who love me enough to send me a birthday woobie! Thanks, guys!Current Mood: excited Current Music: Top Chef

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you are, have ever been, or will ever be, in a heterosexual marriage and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage (or any other kind of legalized domestic partnership) hurts it somehow.

I'm plotting mayhem. ::cue eerie music::
And surprisingly, I need your help.
A co-worker and I have recently been trading a few little practical jokes with each other. But i'm having trouble of thinking of retaliation for the shower of confetti that I received upon opening my overhead storage cubby on Monday.
Anybody have any thoughts for some HARMLESS little interoffice pranks I can use on him?
Here's the basics: We work in the typicial cubicle farm. We sometimes work different shifts, meaning it is possible to access the other's desk / computer. Neither of us use / store our lunches in the breakroom. I'm willing to spend some money but not a lot. Can't be disruptive enough to the rest of the office to get us in trouble.
Got any thoughts?Current Mood: mischievious

This just in from my super-secret tech sources (Gizmodo)
"I hope you've got some time to kill, because the new MTV Music website is pretty much the coolest thing ever for music fans. At long last, the MTV name is being associated with music videos again, because the "music" channel has gone and put its entire archive of music videos online, all embeddable and in high quality. It's like Hulu for music videos, only with less ads (for now). And it's awesome."
I only poked around a little bit, but I must say that I'm pleased to see they've already included this ever-elusive little gem from the early 90s.
